After an initial career in the construction industry, Dr Walton obtained a  four-year BA(Hons) in Psychology from The University of Melbourne. He then obtained one of six places on the two-year Masters in Clinical Neuropsychology course where he undertook hospital based and university based training with Dr Kevin Walsh and Professor Stephen Bowden. He completed a two year internship at Westmead Hospital Sydney and subsequently provided neuropsychological services to the epilepsy surgery programme, general neurology and rehabilitation. He was subsequently appointed as Head of the Neuropsychology Unit at Westmeand Hospital. At the same time, he was a consultant for the Commonwealth Rehabilitation Service and Long Bay Jail. He returned to the UK in 1993 to take up a post as Head of R&D at the Burden Neurological Institute in Bristol. He subsequently formed and headed the Department of Neuropsychology at the New Burden Hospital and Frenchay Hospital where he provided services for neuropsychiatry, neurology and neurosurgery, as well as managing the epilepsy surgery programme at Frenchay. Whilst working in these roles he ran a private medico-legal practice and completed his PhD at Bristol University where he is a visiting lecturer on the neuropsychology training programme. In 2001 he moved into full-time private practice providing medico-legal neuropsychology services to civil litigants, insurers and occupational health providers. Dr Walton is engaged in regular peer review with other NPsych practitioners and senior members of the neuropsychological community.
